THE STRAW HAT GARDENER
New Branch of MSLandscaping on its way!
Increased focus on specific gardening and horticulture skills along with watering schedules for existing or recently installed gardens and landscaped areas. This has always been included in my follow-ups with clients, but more of you are asking for the expertise. I look forward to sharing more on this new venture in the weeks to come.

Fall 2025
Friends,
Fall! Clients often ask me is fall the right time to plant flowers, shrubs, trees, and groundcovers? The descending cooler weather often confuses the planting senses. The ANSWER is YES! Fall is a great time to plant grass, install sod, install new design plans, and organics. Winter is coming and there are plants that grow better in the fall than the spring and summer, but there is a lush amount to be planted from Oct - Dec. Shrubs and trees planted in the fall root themselves well and thrive in the spring after the winter thaw.
Remember, the fall season does not end until December 21. Leaves are turning and the breaths of wind leave evidence on the ground in leaf piles and long trails of colored debris. Outside patios and yard spaces are becoming extra rooms to enjoy with family and friends.
FALL CLEAN-UPS are underway. Clients are also asking for drainage - water intrusion repair projects. Do you have a yard that is neglected, or a rental property, or new house that you are moving to that needs a fresh start? Does your yard need drainage after a long summer season of copious rain and then drought? Are you interested in starting a new landscaping project and need a clean yard palate to begin the process? Clean-ups and drainage will get the ball rolling.
We specialize in effective, FREE consultations that allow face to face time with a client so that we are better able to understand their needs and answer their questions. In a world of text, email, and messenger, we prefer to talk directly with our clients.
Happy fall!

Fall Landscaping Tip
Deciduous Plant Maintenance
(i.e. Hostas, Hydrangeas)
The weather is cooler. If your deciduous plants are looking less than stellar you can trim and reshape the leaves in a way where the dead parts of the leaves are trimmed off into an oval pattern or a pattern appropriate to the natural curve of the plant leaves. Also, make sure the areas around the base of the plants are free from excess ground debris - mulch, dead leaves, pine straw, excess dirt, etc.
While you are at it deadhead all your perennials. The weather is warm enough in the south that they have the opportunity to bloom again.
